Do You Need a New Roof?
It’s not exactly the sexiest of home renovations, but your roof is probably the most important. It’s literally the roof over your head, and you want to make sure it is in good condition. Roofs can become in disrepair for many reasons. To start, roofing can just naturally age and need to be replaced. Or, it could have actual damage due to a storm. There is also replacing the entire roof, or maintenance the problem areas. Keep reading to see why you might need a new roof.
Repair or Replace
The first step is to figure out if you need repairs to your roof or replace it completely. There are a lot of things you should be checking. If you aren’t sure what to do or just don’t have the time, we can help. Having a professional contractor look at your roof can help you catch issues you might overlook. Let’s talk about the possible damage first, and then go into if you might need repairs or a replacement.
Roofing damage can come in a lot of forms. Inside the house, this could be water in your attic after a storm. In more extreme cases, this could cause moisture on the ceiling and possible mold or mildew. Outside the house, it can show up in the shingles cracking, curling, or having dark streaks. A major indicator to roof damage is any sagging or dips in the roof. Some of these can be repaired, but left unkept, they will lead to having a full replacement.
Pro and Cons to Repair
When it comes to repairs, this is obviously the cheaper option. Even with natural aging, all components in a roofing system go bad at once though. Therefore, you might just need something replaced. It is common that repairs will be needed over the lifetime of your roofing system. This maintenance can help extend the life of your roof.
However, if you repair when you should be replacing, it will end up costing you more in the long run. Also, if shingles need to be replaced, this can be difficult to match. Some shingle colors go out of stock or just sun damage can cause your roof to look mismatched.
Pro and Cons to Replacement
If you bought a house or you’re just not sure how old the roofing is, replacing it can just give you peace of mind. You don’t have to worry about leaks or damage because it has been replaced. It also can significantly impact your house’s curb appeal. And, an old tired roof, even without major damage, can make a house look old and tired as well. With a new roof, you can decide what materials and the look you want for your home.
Still, a new roof isn’t like a new kitchen. You don’t get to try it out and have fun with it. It’s a necessity. The costs can be a large investment. Yet, not getting it can cost you even more. While it does essentially reset the life of your roof, it doesn’t mean storm damage can’t happen.

When you mentioned that roofing damage and other complications can come after a storm, I think about my cousin and how he’s been putting up with continuous rainfall lately. The weather seems to have let up by now, but I can’t help but feel that the house he lives in might not have handled it too well considering how old it is. Just to be safe, I’ll pay him a visit and help him get a roofing repair service to inspect any potential damage that might have come up.
