New Deck and Patio in Upper Marlboro, Maryland

When a project finishes and people think the addition was already apart of the existing house, that is an awesome compliment. That is what we kept hearing about this new deck and patio we built in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The homeowner wanted an open deck to walk out on and an underneath patio area and fire pit. We ended up creating a two-tier patio to link the two spaces. In all, this project blended the three areas in a way that was stunning and looked like it was always there. Check out the details of this project below.

The Building of the Deck

We went with composite decking. This one, in particular, was a Cottage Grey in Fiberon’s Good Life Series. The deck itself is approximately 22 ft. x 16 ft. To complete the look we used Shoreline white vinyl railings with black aluminum balusters, along with black solar caps. Due to the patio being usable space underneath, we also installed Trex Rain Escape System. This system uses troughs and gutters to divert water from the deck. It also shields the patio below from rain, snow, sun, and other elements.

The Building of the Patio

Part of the deck itself but underneath on the patio side is the white vinyl ceiling with recess lighting and a ceiling fan. For the patio itself, we used Oceanic Blue Nicolock pavers in their Alpine Contemporary Series. This was extended out to make a matching fire pit and retaining wall. The downspouts were extended to move the water further away from the deck and patio areas. We also installed outlets. The patio is two-tiered with the top part having the underneath space and fire pit. The lower patio is the platform where the stairs extend up to the deck.
